A pair of colonial dresses created with contemporary embroidery techniques, inspired by real colonial era samplers.

Two dresses, each based on a verse/sampler featured in 'American Samplers' by Ethel Stanwood Bolton and Eva Johnston Coe, originally published in 1921. The dresses were made from existing patterns made from real historical garments, inspired by real samplers created by young women of the era. The materials used are largely from scrap bins and sewn together to create new textiles, in a commitment to sustainability evocative of the original material of samplers, which were originally made from hem trimmings.
